2011 Diesel Gala

Major road works on the A1 on the Sunday proved to be something of a deterrent and journey times of more than an hour were reported. But all in all it was a major morale boost and congratulations are due to everyone involved.
Saturday 9th saw seven trains in operation starting with 47715 "Poseidon" leaving for Redmire on 2R01 at 0925 and returning at 1130. Deltic 55019 "Royal Highland Fusilier" then majestically eased out of Leeming Bar at 1025 to return at 1300 by which time D5310 (aka 26010) was approaching Redmire with the third train of the day - looking very pretty in her original livery as sported in 1959 when she was allocated to Hornsea Motive Power Deport (minus the yellow panel). 20166 and 20020 ran train four in tandem. Trains five to seven were a repeat of two to four with operations concluding around 2130.

Sunday 10th kicked off with the Class 20s on 2R01 followed by the Deltic on 2R03 and D5310 on 2R05. "Poseidon" headed 2R07 with 55019 and D5310 heading trains five and six respectively - the six train programme coming to a close at 1830. Meanshile 46 visitors took advantage of the "Driver for a Fiver" opportunity on Diesel Shunter 03144.
Hot food was provided for the first time at a Wensleydale gala function and ingenious admin led to a record 73 cars being able to park in the main car park. Another "first" was Chairman Ken's £2 for £1 "bond" to encourage visitors to return - which he pursued with great enthusiasm.
